Caprichoso de Pilares
SATTBB a cappella
Published by Fresh Ayre Music

A Brazilian street samba from Carneval that Dare to Breathe did as part of a Mardi Gras concert. I got the song from a field recording on the Laserlight label, and there is no information about the writer or performers, except that the band is “Caprichoso de Pilares.” The arrangement is fast, noisy and full of sound effects.

Description

Alô Brasil!
Alegria geral
Quem comeu, comeu
Quem não comeu, Ah!

Quem comeu, comeu
Quem não comeu, não come mais
Brasil com “ze” jamais

Tudo bem, novamente popular
Um novo sol à brilhar
É isso ai, vou caprichar
Eu falei, vou caprichar

Alô Brasil!

Brasil, meu Brasil, com “esse”
Fica bem mais forte
No sul, no centro e no norte

A voz do nosso povo
Ninguém vai te enganar de novo

Um sorriso de criança
Até a esperança conquistar
O que é a nossa terra
Sem essa de americanizar

Não enfia o pau
Noutra bandeira
Astira, tira e bota
A nossa brasileira

Olha que eu sou

Sou canariquito
Carioca a cantar, hei!
Águia não cala meu bico
Meu ouvido não é pinico
Meu sã é de sambar

Bonito é os brasileiros
Dos fagodes, nos terreiros

Contra os que vem de lá
Canto à liberdade
Meu hino, minha verdade
A feijoada e a vatapá

Translation:
Hello, Brazil!
(let there be) general happiness
Those who ate, ate
Those who didn’t eat, ah!

Those who ate, ate
Those who didn’t eat, will never eat
Brazil with a “z”, never!

Everything here has become popular
A new sun is shining
That’s it! I’ll do my best
I said, I’ll do my best

Hello Brazil!

Brazil, my Brazil with an “s”
is stronger
in the South, the Central region, and
the North
The voice of our people
No one will deceive you

The smile of a child
until hope conquers
That which is from our land
no way we’ll let be americanized

Don’t put other flags
on our flagpoles
Take your flags away
and put ours up

See who I am

I am a “little canary” [Brazilian]
who is singing
Eagle, do not shut my mouth
My ears are not a bedpan
Samba is my life

The heroes of Brasil are beautiful
From the (dance parties) or the (sacred
spaces)
Against foreign influences
My voice is freedom
my hymn, my truth
is feijoda e vatapa.
