“Candles In Our Hearts” is an imagined scene on an imagined Christmas Eve in which the children’s choir of a village church is roused from their beds to process through the streets by candlelight and sing for the midnight service. The mood is giddy, excited and playful. As they sing, the children discover that the light of their candles is linked to the stars, the dawn, the Christ child, and their own hearts.

Description

On a cold December night
Up way past our bedtime
Caroling by candlelight
We’re singing, Joy to the world! Alleluia! Gloria Deo!

There’s the place we’re going to
Joyful bells ahead chime
Take my hand and you come, too!
And we’ll sing, Joy to the world! Alleluia! Gloria Deo!

Overhead, the sky is clear
Never felt the stars so near
Angels must have come to light
Candles in the sky tonight!

Open up the chapel doors
Race you there, I dare you!
Gather ‘round me, troubadours
And we’ll sing, Joy to the world! Alleluia! Gloria Deo!

Sing of one who came to give
Love enough to light the world
So that we may learn to live
By God’s grace to right the world.

Stay together now, my friends
Safe until our journey ends.
Walk with him who came to light
Candles in our hearts tonight!

Home is just a step away
Dawn’s around the corner
Soon it will be Christmas Day
And we’ll sing, Joy to the world! Alleluia! Gloria Deo!

On a cold December night
In the glow of candlelight
We’re singing, Joy to the world! Alleluia! Gloria Deo!
